Frequently Asked Questions
We know you have questions. Hopefully we've answer them here. If not - contact us directly.LawyerShop.ca is a network of Law Firms in Canada that focus on one particular practice area.
The skills and aptitude necessary for a good criminal lawyer are vastly different from the skills and talents required for complex intellectual property or estate litigation files. We've also recognized that having relevant experience on legal issues can be the difference in preparing for cases properly, understanding the nuances of court procedures and ultimately the knowledge of how to better one's position, argument or case before the courts.
1. Is there a monthly contract?
Yes. We ask law firms to sign a contract with us once the free trial is over. There is a three-month cancellation term on all contracts - which usually range from 6 months to 1 year at a time.
2. What am I commiting to when I sign up?
Nothing. We are simply looking for law firms interested in joining our network. Our staff will contact you within 2 business days to discuss your market and law firm needs. Once you fill out the form, we reserve your market for you - but no credit card or money is needed. You have a 60 day free trial where we will prove the worth of our network before we ask for any commitments from you.
3. How do you track leads?
We track leads through a variety of internet marketing techniques. Mainly, we ensure each law firm on our network has a unique phone number listed so we can monitor the call volume. On some occasions, should you chose to sign up for the service, we also answer the phone and intake client names for you. We also include leads to your website, and email leads via customized Google Analytics reporting.
4. Can I publish my own content?
Yes. You are welcome to send in your own content, however, it must be original and must not be published anywhere else on the Internet except your own law firm website. Fees vary for Article Publishing, so please speak to one of our staff for more details.
5. What is a market?
A market is specific city and legal practice area. ex: Toronto + Criminal Defence Law, and Toronto + Employment Law are two separate markets. We list markets this way because we list 8 law firms per city, in one of 8 different legal practice areas.
6. Why do you only work with 1 law firm per market?
We switched LawyerShop.ca from a directory-type listing vehicle to a law firm network in 2005 because we felt too many of our clients were sharing their leads. By only allowing one law firm per market - we beleive we are best serving the people visiting our website. It allows us to have more content, and to remove the competitors for all of our clients.
7. How does my law firm qualify?
We are looking for law firms that primarily focus on one area of law. We understand that in some circumstances, your law firm may focus on 2 or 3 different practice areas - and we accept that. We are not looking to partner with large, multi-city, multi-discipline law firms.
8. Do you turn down law firms?
Yes. We don't simply sell advertising. We interview and research the law firms on our network before they sign up. We want to make sure joining our network is a value-add for you, us and the people visiting our website.
9. Why isn't there any advertising on your network?
We find that advertising dilutes the message we are trying to convey. When you pay to be listed on our network, your law firm is always the only law firm promoted on those given pages.
10. Can I be listed on LawyerShop.ca and other sites?
Yes. You are more than welcome to advertise on other law firm directories - in fact, we've helped some of our clients list on competitor websites. Our goal is to maximize your advertising ROI.
11. How does your site consistently rank well on search engines?
We have a team of experts who constantly manage, report and track changes to our rankings. Over the past 7 years, no legal website has remained as consistently focused on top search ranking results.
12. Are people really using this service?
Yes. We track and monitor over 1,000 qualified leads per month to our network of law firms.
13. Can I get referrals from other lawyers on the network?
Yes. One of the key advantages to listing on our network is that you do not share your spot with law firms you compete with. This means, you can send referrals to any law firm in your area and know you will receive the same in return.
14. I've never heard of LawyerShop.ca - do you advertise?
No. All of our marketing efforts are done online through search engines. People have been using our service since 2003 and we are a trusted source of referrals to law firms in Canada.
15. What is the legal business name?
We operate as ID Incorporated - LawyerShop.ca is a brand managed through this Canadian incorporated business.
